If the BFA decides that the family cannot be admitted, the family still has the possibility of making a statement. By doing this it can be explained why the decision of the BFA towards the family is considered wrong.
If the BFA does not modify the decision despite your claim, the embassy will inform your family. There is 4 weeks time to take make a statement. The case will be examined by Federal Administrative Court. This verification normally lasts several months.
