What happens after the admission in Austria?
Before your arrival in the country, it has to be clear where the family will be living. If the family cannot live with the person of reference in Austria, another accommodation is needed on time.
Right after the arrival a declaration of place of residence is needed. With the “Meldezettel” the members of the family can submit a personal application for asylum at the regional directorate of BFA.
After the submission of the application of asylum, the family has to register for primary care for asylum seekers. It can last some months until the members of the family receive a notification on their application for asylum and meanwhile some primary care service can be granted. Before the decision, there is no right to any other social services (such as income support). The admission to primary care is granted differently in each federal region. It is recommended to find an appropriate consultation office before your arrival.
The members of the family need to obtain at least the same status of the person that arrived first to Austria. If the person of reference has asylum in Austria, the family reunited receives also asylum. If the person in Austria only has subsidiary protection, asylum is also possible, if other reasons for fleeing the country exist.
